Market Credit Leader Manager - East Region Centralized Credit Team
About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Commercial Banking Portfolio Management Senior Manager to lead a centralized team of credit approvers supporting C&I clients with annual revenue of $25 million to $2B+ across the East Region.
This role is accountable for managing a team of geographically disbursed approvers to deliver consistent, timely, and high-quality credit decisions while maintaining strong risk discipline. The leader will partner closely with Market Coverage and sales leadership to support growth objectives while ensuring sound underwriting standards and portfolio management practices
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a tenured credit approval team supporting Emerging Middle Market and Middle Market portfolios, with accountability for credit decision quality, consistency, and timeliness.
- Manage and oversee credit approval activity, including new originations, renewals, modifications, and ongoing portfolio actions, ensuring alignment with policy and risk appetite.
- Partner directly with Market Sales Leaders and Relationship Managers to provide proactive credit guidance, support client solutions, and enable responsible growth.
- Actively participate in complex credit transactions and serve as an escalation point for high-impact or complex deal.
- Drive execution discipline and process consistency, including adoption of credit tools (e.g., AI Credit Memo / Copilot) and continuous process improvement.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and risk control enhancements, strengthening underwriting rigor and operational efficiency.
- Provide oversight of portfolio trends and emerging risks, ensuring strong adherence to risk rating, monitoring, and watchlist practices
- Collaborate with Independent Risk Management and senior stakeholders to ensure alignment on credit strategy, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.
- Determine strategy and priorities for the team to meet complex business objectives across a multi-market region.
- Manage allocation of people and resources, ensuring effective coverage and scalable support for the East Region.
- Promote a high level of team engagement, accountability, and performance, while driving a culture of strong execution and continuous improvement.
- Develop and coach talent, building a high-performing team of credit approvers and future leaders.
- Support ongoing transformation initiatives, including centralized credit model evolution and technology enablement.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of Commercial Banking Portfolio Management, Credit Approval, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with complex credit, underwriting, and debt structure for clients with annual revenue of $25MM to $2B+
- Completion of a formal credit training program
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of core banking products and services such as, commercial lending and treasury management
- Experience developing and maintaining external and internal partnerships
- Experience in swiftly adopting and executing change management to enable business growth
- Experience identifying risk, ensuring compliance with processes, and mitigating risk issues
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business

Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
