Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Routing Specialist / Outbound Transportation Coordinator to support high-volume outbound shipping operations for a fast-paced distribution environment. This role will focus heavily on routing outbound shipments to retailers, coordinating carrier pickups, scheduling shipment appointments, and ensuring compliance with retailer routing requirements and ship windows.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in outbound logistics, retailer routing, transportation coordination, load planning, or distribution operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and route outbound shipments to retailers, distribution centers, and customer locations
- Schedule carrier pickups, delivery appointments, and shipment windows to ensure on-time departures
- Review and follow retailer routing guides and compliance requirements
- Prepare and manage shipping documentation including BOLs, ASNs, PODs, packing slips, and shipment records
- Communicate daily with carriers, warehouses, internal teams, and customers regarding shipment status, delays, and routing changes
- Monitor outbound loads to ensure service levels and delivery deadlines are met
- Resolve routing discrepancies, scheduling conflicts, and shipment exceptions in real time
- Maintain accurate transportation data and update routing activity within internal systems
- Support load planning and outbound freight optimization to improve operational efficiency
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Experience in outbound routing, transportation coordination, dispatch, load planning, or logistics operations
- Strong understanding of retailer routing guides, outbound shipping, or distribution center operations preferred
- Experience coordinating carrier appointments, shipment scheduling, and freight movement
- Knowledge of transportation documents such as BOL, ASN, POD, routing requests, and shipping manifests
- Proficiency in Excel and transportation/logistics systems (TMS, ERP, WMS, EDI preferred)
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Experience in retail, consumer goods, food distribution, 3PL, or manufacturing shipping environments strongly preferred
Compensation
