Payroll Accounting Consultant
Responsibilities:
• Provide payroll accounting support for a large employee population, ensuring accurate financial reporting and alignment between payroll and accounting records.
• Review and reconcile benefit-related balances, investigate variances, and deliver meaningful analysis to support decision-making.
• Correct payroll discrepancies and assist with cleanup activities tied to recent payroll and finance system changes.
• Maintain and refine payroll-to-general-ledger mapping to improve accuracy across accounting entries and downstream reporting.
• Prepare account reconciliations, resolve outstanding items, and partner with finance to keep records current and balanced.
• Support union reporting and reconciliation activities when applicable, including validation of payroll-related obligations under union agreements.
• Help design, document, and implement practical payroll accounting procedures that improve consistency and internal controls.
• Collaborate across payroll, finance, and operational teams in a highly visible business-facing role that requires clear communication and active participation.
• Use Oracle and Excel to analyze payroll data, validate transactions, and support ongoing reporting needs.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in payroll, payroll accounting, or a related finance function.• Demonstrated experience supporting payroll operations for a workforce of more than 500 employees.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger processes, payroll accounting entries, and account reconciliation practices.
• Ability to investigate discrepancies, perform detailed analysis, and resolve payroll-related financial issues.
• Proficiency with Excel and experience working in Oracle or comparable enterprise systems.
• Background in union reporting, union reconciliations, or union contract payroll support is highly preferred.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative, business-partner-oriented environment.
