interim Controller (contract)
We are looking for an interim Controller to join a Contract engagement supporting project accounting operations in Dallas, Texas. This role focuses on strengthening day-to-day accounting workflows, improving process consistency, and assisting with financial documentation across recurring and special assignments. The position will play a key part in invoice handling, reconciliations, payment activity, and audit-related support while partnering with internal teams and external contacts to keep accounting activities moving efficiently.
This is a 2-3 month contract position

Interim Controller (contract position):
Responsibilities:
• Support project accounting activities by organizing records, improving workflow steps, and helping establish reliable operating procedures.
• Assist with audit preparation by gathering requested documentation such as invoices, check copies, payment support, and other materials needed for testing and review.
• Compile financial backup for pre-development draw requests, ensuring supporting records are complete and available in a timely manner.
• Manage incoming invoices throughout the day, resolve items awaiting approval when appropriate, and route transactions to maintain steady processing.
• Coordinate vendor onboarding documentation by following up with requesters and suppliers until required setup information is fully completed.
• Prepare routine and time-sensitive check payments, arrange expedited payment delivery when needed, and record cleared check activity accurately.
• Respond promptly to tenant statement inquiries, retrieve draw-related invoices quickly to prevent funding delays, and process bank deposits on the day payments are received.
• Download and code carrier invoices, upload payable records into the procure-to-pay workflow, complete monthly bank reconciliations within early close deadlines, and generate tenant statements as scheduled.
Qualifications:
• Experience in project accounting, preferably in an environment with high-volume transaction processing and deadline-driven support needs.• Working knowledge of procure-to-pay processes, including invoice intake, coding, payment handling, and vendor record maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliations and complete bank reconciliations accurately within tight monthly timelines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, organizing, and reviewing financial data and supporting documentation.
• Background in audit preparation, including assembling requested records and responding to prepared-by-client support lists.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in financial processing.
• Effective communication skills for working with internal stakeholders, vendors, tenants, and banking-related inquiries.
