Network Engineer

Robert Half is actively partnering with an Austin-based client to identify a Network Engineer (contract). In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining highly available network solutions while partnering closely with infrastructure, platform, and engineering teams. This role is onsite in Austin, Tx. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and support scalable, secure, and highly available network infrastructure.
• Configure and maintain routing, switching, and connectivity services across geographically distributed environments.
• Support network segmentation, security controls, and firewall administration.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, platform, and application teams to integrate networking solutions with compute, storage, and cloud technologies.
• Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts to improve operational efficiency and deployment consistency.
• Monitor network performance and reliability using infrastructure monitoring and observability platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network and infrastructure issues while minimizing operational impact.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy and scalability initiatives.
• Maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in network engineering within an enterprise, data center, cloud, or hybrid infrastructure environment.
• Strong understanding of network architecture, routing, switching, VPN technologies, and network security principles.
• Experience supporting enterprise firewall platforms and implementing security best practices.
• Proficiency with Linux administration and infrastructure automation using scripting or configuration management tools.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring, observability, and performance analysis tools.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex networking and infrastructure issues independently.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams.
• Willingness to support occasional travel for infrastructure deployments or operational activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with software-defined networking, network virtualization, or modern data center architectures.
• Exposure to cloud platforms, container technologies, Kubernetes, or platform engineering environments.
• Familiarity with network automation frameworks and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Experience supporting large-scale, distributed, or globally connected infrastructure environments.
• Knowledge of advanced troubleshooting and packet analysis tools.
