Charge Capture Associate (Outpatient)
We are looking for a detail-oriented Charge Capture Associate (Outpatient) to support revenue cycle activities for a healthcare organization in San Luis Obispo, California. This Contract position focuses on reviewing outpatient charge information, entering billable services accurately, and helping maintain reliable reimbursement workflows. The person in this role will work within established procedures while partnering with internal teams to resolve charge issues, improve accuracy, and support timely billing operations.
Responsibilities:
• Enter outpatient charges into the billing platform with a high level of accuracy and attention to established guidelines.
• Review charge information and related documentation to confirm billable items are complete, supported, and ready for processing.
• Work with coding, clinical, and administrative teams to obtain missing details needed for accurate reimbursement.
• Reconcile charge summaries against encounter documentation before final updates are submitted in the system.
• Monitor reports and edit queues, identify discrepancies, and coordinate corrections with the appropriate departments.
• Support audits, special reviews, and departmental projects aimed at strengthening charge capture and revenue cycle performance.
• Keep leadership informed of issues, trends, or barriers affecting charge entry quality and timeliness.
• Perform additional assigned tasks that contribute to billing accuracy, collections support, and overall patient financial services operations.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional college or technical education is preferred.• Previous charge entry or medical billing experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of outpatient billing processes, revenue cycle operations, and reimbursement practices.
• Ability to follow established procedures, departmental policies, and detailed work instructions consistently.
• Experience reviewing reports, resolving billing edits, and assisting with audit-related activities.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage routine assignments accurately within defined parameters.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional staff to gather billing information.
Compensation
