Position Description

The TTUHSC Department of Psychiatry is dedicated to the TTUHSC mission to enrich the lives of others by educating students to become collaborative health care professionals, providing excellent patient care, and advancing knowledge through innovative research. TTUHSC School of Medicine is a community based medical school in that we collaborate with community hospitals as training sites instead of owning our own. This allows us to provide a varied training experience for our residents and medical students and for faculty to fulfill their unique interests in the practice and science of psychiatry.

Rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor and applicable salary are dependent upon candidate's qualifications and experience.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Perform forensic psychiatric assessments for competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, risk assessments, and other legal matters.
  • Prepare detailed forensic reports for courts, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert testimony in court, depositions, and other legal settings as required.
  • Collaborate with legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, and law enforcement officers, to provide insights and recommendations on psychiatric issues in legal cases.


Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO or equivalent.
  • Completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 3.
  • Completion of, or in the process of completing, a residency in psychiatry.
  • Completion of, or in the process of completing, a fellowship in Forensic psychiatry OR Experience in Forensic Psychiatry.
  • ABMS Board Eligibility, or in the process of completing training to become board eligible, in Psychiatry.
