Payroll Accountant
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join their accounting and finance team. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting accounting functions, payroll reconciliations, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Review and audit payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, deductions, taxes, bonuses, and commissions.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Partner with Human Resources to process new hires, terminations, benefit changes, and employee updates.
- Prepare payroll tax filings and assist with year-end reporting, including W-2 processing.
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies with tax agencies or third-party vendors.
- Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen payroll accuracy and internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll and accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Paychex, Workday, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation
