Payroll Accountant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join their accounting and finance team. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting accounting functions, payroll reconciliations, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Review and audit payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, deductions, taxes, bonuses, and commissions.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Partner with Human Resources to process new hires, terminations, benefit changes, and employee updates.
• Prepare payroll tax filings and assist with year-end reporting, including W-2 processing.
• Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies with tax agencies or third-party vendors.
• Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen payroll accuracy and internal controls.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of payroll and accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Paychex, Workday, or similar platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
