Staff Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support a dynamic public accounting environment serving a diverse portfolio of business clients in Troy, Michigan. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable handling day-to-day accounting activities, communicating directly with clients, and delivering accurate financial information across multiple engagements. The position offers the chance to contribute in a collaborative setting while continuing to expand technical and advisory skills.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain and review accounting records for multiple small and mid-sized business clients, ensuring completeness and accuracy across engagements.
• Prepare routine bookkeeping and write-up work, including journal entries, general ledger updates, and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to keep client financial data current and reliable.
• Assist with month-end close activities and produce financial statements for client review and decision-making.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, discussing results and helping them understand key financial reports.
• Support core accounting processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash activity tracking as needed.
• Use QuickBooks regularly and adapt to additional accounting applications and digital tools that enhance workflow efficiency.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience providing accounting support for multiple business clients, preferably in a firm or outsourced accounting setting.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks is required.
• Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close.
• Experience preparing financial statements and explaining financial information to clients or business stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly; exposure to platforms such as Xero, Bill.com, NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP is beneficial.
• A detail-oriented and organized approach to managing priorities in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Compensation

$70,000.00-$100,000.00 Yearly
