Assistant Controller

San Francisco, CA 94105, US Remote Temporary
Compensation: $75 to $80 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a fast-moving organization in San Francisco, California on a Long-term Contract basis. This position will provide day-to-day accounting leadership, strengthen close and reporting activities, and help guide a high-performing team across several core finance functions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound operational judgment, and the ability to stay effective in an environment with changing priorities.

Responsibilities:
• Lead and coach a team responsible for accounts receivable, revenue operations, accounts payable, general ledger activity, and related process support.
• Oversee journal entry preparation and review while directing month-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial results.
• Contribute to leadership meetings and collaborate with business partners across departments to align accounting priorities with company needs.
• Support treasury operations by managing payment activity, monitoring cash positions, and assisting with short-term forecasting efforts.
• Assess current billing and revenue workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and work closely with finance leadership to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Coordinate team capacity and assign work effectively across competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
• Provide hands-on support in selected accounting areas as business needs shift, stepping into additional responsibilities when necessary.
• Participate in system-related initiatives, including potential Workday integration support, as part of broader accounting and operational efforts.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within corporate accounting or controllership functions.

• Strong foundation in general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting activities.

• Practical experience supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and revenue-related processes.

• Exposure to treasury functions such as payments, cash management, and forecasting.

• Background working with multiple financial systems, including tools such as NetSuite, Coupa, Bill.com, Ramp, SAP S/4HANA, or Sage Intacct.

• Proven ability to manage multiple functional leads and maintain quality in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

• High level of organization, attention to detail, and sound judgment when reviewing accounting work.

• Startup experience is strongly preferred; public accounting experience is an advantage.


Compensation

$75.00-$80.00 Hourly
