Payroll Specialist

A growing, multi-state organization is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support and stabilize a high-volume payroll function. The Payroll Specialist will play a key part in improving processes and supporting a dynamic, evolving team. The ideal Payroll specialist will have Paylocity experience, someone who thrives in a hands-on, detail-driven environment and enjoys working through complex payroll scenarios.

The Payroll Specialist Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll with accuracy and timeliness
• Review and validate timesheets, earnings, and deductions
• Handle payroll adjustments and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Respond to employee and manager payroll-related inquiries
• Collaborate with HR and accounting to ensure data accuracy
• Support audits and payroll reporting requirements

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of payroll experience, including end-to-end processing responsibilities.

• Demonstrated experience managing payroll for more than 500 employees across multiple states.

• Strong knowledge of payroll practices involving hourly and salaried employees, biweekly cycles, deductions, reconciliations, and garnishments.

• Ability to analyze payroll issues thoughtfully, identify dependencies, and make sound decisions in a complex processing environment.

• Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach and the ability to explain payroll matters clearly and respectfully.

• Comfortable working in an onsite, Monday through Friday role within a changing organization and developing team structure.

• Experience with Paylocity is preferred; however, strong system aptitude and the ability to learn complex payroll platforms are also important.

• High attention to detail, sound judgment under pressure, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and follow-up.
