Virtualization System Administrator
Description
Leidos has an immediate opening for a Virtualization / VMware Administrator supporting the CITS contract for USCENTCOM. The position is based in Tampa, Florida.
The Virtualization / VMware Administrator will serve as a technical manager, directing daily operations and tasking for a cross-functional team of 6 to 7 IT professionals. While serving as the technical lead for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's VMware virtual infrastructure, this role also encompasses the operational management of the team to ensure successful mission execution and enterprise availability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly skilled Virtualization / VMware Administrator with demonstrated experience in designing, deploying, and managing VMware environments, coupled with strong operational management capabilities. The Administrator will be responsible for:
- Operational Team Management: Directing the daily tasking, project assignments, and workload distribution for a cross-functional IT team of 6 to 7 personnel.
- Task & Schedule Coordination: Managing operational workflows, approving timesheets, and coordinating shift or leave schedules to ensure adequate coverage for mission-critical IT support (excluding formal career development or HR performance evaluations).
- Technical Escalation & Coordination: Acting as the primary technical escalation point for VMware-related issues, while coordinating cross-functional troubleshooting efforts among team members.
- Deploying and maintaining VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines across multiple physical sites.
- Performing regular maintenance, updates, and patches to ensure the security and reliability of the virtual infrastructure.
- Monitoring and optimizing virtual infrastructure performance, resource utilization, and system availability.
- Implementing and managing VMware networking components such as distributed switches and VLANs.
- Collaborating with other IT teams and leadership to design and implement infrastructure solutions that integrate with virtualization technologies and align with command requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual machines and infrastructure components.
- Developing, maintaining, and enforcing team adherence to documentation related to virtualization architecture, processes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Evaluating and recommending new VMware technologies and solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency, while forecasting operational resource requirements for the team.
- Leading and supporting projects to enhance the security, efficiency, or capability of the virtualized environment.
- Collaborating with vendors and third-party providers for troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Ensuring the team's compliance with security policies, regulations, and best practices related to virtualization and general IT operations.
Education and/or Certifications:
Required:
- Requires BS and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 Certification
Desired:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
- ITIL 4 Foundation Certification
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in managing and troubleshooting VMware vSphere infrastructure.
- Proven experience in a task management or operational lead role, successfully coordinating daily operations, schedules, and deliverables for a technical team.
- Experience with VMware technologies including ESXi, vCenter Server, vSAN, and vSphere Networking.
- Strong understanding of virtualization concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to review, modify, and prepare comprehensive documentation for virtualization tasks and team operating procedures.
- Excellent communication and project management skills to effectively organize a multi-disciplinary team.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with VMware Horizon for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible or PowerCLI for automation tasks.
- Experience with USCENTCOM and understanding of its mission and IT environment.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $92,300.00 - $166,850.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
