Payroll Specialist

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a leading non-profit organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This Contract to hire position will focus on delivering accurate, timely payroll processing for employees across multiple pay cycles while maintaining compliance with applicable policies and payroll regulations. The role is well suited for an individual who can manage high-volume transactions, investigate payroll issues, and provide responsive support to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Process payroll across recurring and non-routine cycles, ensuring each run is completed accurately and within established deadlines.

• Enter, review, and adjust payroll-related data such as earnings, deductions, benefit changes, retirement updates, and finance-related corrections.

• Validate payroll results through reconciliations, gross-to-net reviews, register analysis, and identification of exceptions requiring follow-up.

• Support specialized payroll activities, including year-end tax form preparation, wage garnishment administration, and documentation related to non-resident tax treaty matters.

• Investigate payroll questions and discrepancies, using system records and supporting documentation to determine causes and implement corrections.

• Respond to employee and partner inquiries through a case management approach, delivering clear updates and maintaining ownership until resolution.

• Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, and departmental contacts to resolve escalated payroll matters and ensure consistent application of payroll policies.

• Maintain strong data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance standards while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced payroll environment.

Qualifications:

• Experience processing full-cycle payroll in a high-volume environment, including support for more than 500 employees.
• Knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and related compliance considerations.
• Hands-on experience with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now and the ability to work effectively within HR/payroll platforms.
• Strong understanding of payroll calculations, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and payroll adjustments.
• Ability to analyze discrepancies, perform detailed reconciliations, and resolve issues with a high degree of accuracy.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to support employees and internal business partners professionally.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a deadline-driven setting.

Compensation

$20.00-$27.00 Hourly
