Controller
Responsibilities:
• Direct accounting, payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, and purchasing activities to support accurate and timely financial operations.
• Lead and develop a team of finance professionals, including assigning priorities, reviewing performance, and supporting employee growth and accountability.
• Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with reporting standards and organizational requirements.
• Manage general ledger activity, month-end close, quarter-end processes, and year-end close to maintain complete and reliable financial records.
• Analyze financial results, forecasts, and operating reports to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and present recommendations to leadership.
• Provide financial oversight for capital plans, bond-funded projects, debt-service funding, and grant-supported programs.
• Ensure audited financial statements and supporting schedules are prepared accurately and delivered on schedule for external audit activities.
• Monitor revenues and expenditures across organizational funds and help guide decisions related to short-term and long-range financial planning.
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 5 years serving as a Controller in a mid-sized to large organization.• Strong background in annual financial reporting, financial statement preparation, and analysis of audited financial statements.
• Demonstrated expertise in general ledger management, general accounting, and full-cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, and purchasing functions within a complex organization.
• Proven ability to lead, organize, and develop accounting staff while managing multiple priorities effectively.
• Knowledge of financial statement audits, internal controls, and reporting practices that support compliance and accuracy.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable recommendations.
