Sr. Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Sr. Accountant to join a growing organization in Sparks, Maryland on a Contract basis. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, solid reporting skills, and the ability to explain financial information clearly to colleagues across the organization.
Core Responsibilities
- Analyze financial results and performance trends through the development of key performance indicators (KPIs), with comparisons to market and industry benchmarks.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of financial models, customized reports, and other ad hoc analyses to support business needs and decision-making.
- Complete monthly journal entries along with all necessary backup documentation, while also reviewing related schedules for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Perform reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Present financial data, accounting policies, and procedural guidance in a clear and understandable way for leaders outside of finance.
- Provide hands-on support across the department as needed, including administrative and operational tasks such as invoice filing, inventory assistance, and document conversion.
Qualifications:
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least five years of broad accounting experience, including responsibility for account reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
- Strong understanding of GAAP along with solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using reporting and analytics platforms such as Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
- Familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems; such as NetSuite, Workday, or Sage.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools, systems, and software with ease.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through, including the ability to investigate inconsistencies and research items that require clarification.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information appropriately.
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and willing to contribute wherever needed to support departmental goals.
