Position Summary:
The CNC Machinist II is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machining equipment used in the production of precision dental devices and components. This role ensures all manufactured products meet strict quality, regulatory, and customer requirements in an ISO-certified and FDA-regulated manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
CNC Machine Operation & Setup
• Set up, with minimal to no assistance, and operate 3 CNC machines to manufacture precision dental device components.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, CAD models, and work instructions.
• Load raw materials, tools, and fixtures into CNC equipment.
• Monitor machine operations and make offsets or adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with engineering or maintenance teams to resolve problems.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
• Adhere to ISO 13485, FDA Quality System Regulations (21 CFR Part 820), GMP, and company quality procedures.
• Complete accurate production and inspection documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Maintain traceability of materials, tooling, and finished products.
• Participate in internal audits, CAPA activities, nonconformance investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all work meets established quality standards and device specifications.
Equipment & Maintenance
• Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and tool changes.
• Maintain organized and clean work areas in compliance with 5S and safety standards.
• Identify equipment issues and escalate maintenance needs appropriately.
• Support preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
Safety & Team Collaboration
• Follow all OSHA, company safety, and PPE requirements.
• Work collaboratively with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
• Assist in process improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Train or mentor junior machinists or operators as needed.
Physical Attributes:
• Stand or walk for extended periods.
• Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Bend, squat, and reach to retrieve product.
• Utilize dexterity abilities to handle inventory, operate machinery, type on a computer, and perform tasks such as packing, unpacking, and sorting items.
• Spend significant time reading both on paper and on a computer.
Work Environment:
• General manufacturing environment.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a regulated manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience operating Swiss-style CNC machines or lathes.
• Experience in dental, medical device, or precision component manufacturing.
• CNC programming experience (Fanuc, Haas, Citizen, or similar controls).
• Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators.
• Familiarity with ISO 13485 and FDA-regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with ERP/MES systems.
Salary: $29.00-$33.00/hour + 10% shift differential. The final pay for this position will vary based on geographic location and candidate experience relative to what the company reasonably anticipates for this position.
