Location: Boston – On site
Position Type: Full-Time ; 10-month position
Summary of position:
The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for the development and implementation of a of a physical education program including motor skill development, adaptive physical education activities, oversight of the climbing wall program, the development of cooperative team activities, coaching of the high school basketball team, and oversight of extracurricular physical activities.

Essential duties:
- Develops, implements and continuously monitors appropriate physical education curriculums for all students to address motor skill development and cooperative team participation.
- Adapts the physical education curriculum to address individual motor skill deficits, coordination difficulties, and perceptual-motor and motor planning deficits of specific students and/or classroom groups.
- Demonstrates effective behavior management and group development skills when leading physical education classes.
- Collaborates with the occupational therapist to plan and co-lead adaptive physical education classes to directly address sensory and motor planning deficits.
- Actively participates in annual clinical/educational case conferences and weekly classroom meetings as necessary and directed.
- Organizes, monitors, and maintains physical education equipment.
- Participates in professional development programs, staff meetings, and floor meetings.
- Assists with crisis intervention and/or direct-care coverage as necessary and requested.
- Participates in writing grants to benefit physical education program.
- Serves as head coach for the high school basketball team, schedule games for the season, organize practices, plan travel, and coordinate the purchasing of materials/uniforms.
- Plans and organizes extracurricular activities for middle and high school students, including the CHILL snowboarding program.
- In collaboration with the nurse manager and classroom teachers; develops and implements school wide health curriculum.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field is required.
- Massachusetts Physical Education License PreK-8 and 5-12 in good standing is required or the ability to obtain.
Experience:
- 1 year experience teaching physical education in a school setting with a similar student population is required.
Training:
- First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.
- General understanding of the impact of the emotional, behavioral, and neurological challenges on student functioning and development.
Logistics
License/Certification: Massachusetts Physical Education License PreK-8 and 5-12 in good standing is required or the ability to obtain.
Salary: $75,000 - $90,000
