Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
Essential Functions:
- Will be responsible for software systems engineering products for their Scrum Team, including the development of software products
- Responsible for in-depth analysis and technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
- Systems Engineering support for the team that maintains, debugs, and configures related software products
- Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications
- Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
- Work with SEIT organization to decompose system requirements into well-defined software-level requirements
- Work with SEIT organization to drive system use cases, CONOPS, and sequences
- Work with SEIT organization to develop or update system external interfaces
- Author or assist with proposals
- Perform software design - software product-level use cases and sequences
- Create and maintain software design - Algorithm Design Documents and Functional Design Documents
- This position can be filled by a Systems Engineer with background or experience in Software Development, or by a Software Engineer with Systems Engineering experience or training and a desire to support the Systems Engineering V for the Software Development Team
Basic Qualifications:

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, System Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- +In-depth understanding of the systems engineering process and principles
- Proven track record of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions
- Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
- Candidates should have experience developing large, complex systems
- Software development experience with applications
- Working knowledge of systems engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.)
- Use of common software development and management tools such as Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven, Gradle, and Eclipse
- Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:
- Command and control system application development
- Experience with automated testing and pipeline development is desired
- Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows
- Experience with software integration testing, including developing automated test scripts
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with performance modeling
- Experience with build management tools and pipelines
- Prior C2BMC experience
- Experience working within an Agile development environment, domain experience in both Space and Missile Defense, and experience with Systems Analysis, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Architecture development, Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud Computing principles
- Demonstrated experience leading large, multi-site software development efforts, including external interface development
- Demonstrated experience conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, and/or Design Evaluations
- Experience designing large command-and-control and/or weapon systems
- Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and MBSE tools
- The successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the flexibility required to work in a highly dynamic environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
