Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a utilities and infrastructure organization in Indianapolis, Indiana on a Contract basis. This opportunity is suited for someone who thrives in a fast-moving setting and can manage large invoice volumes while keeping records accurate and organized. The role will play an important part in maintaining timely payments, supporting vendor communication, and helping resolve outstanding accounts payable items.

Responsibilities:
• Handle a high volume of incoming invoices with accuracy and strong attention to deadlines.
• Review and verify purchasing documents by completing two-way and three-way matching across invoices, receipts, and purchase orders.
• Contribute to accounts payable cleanup activities by researching open items and helping reconcile outstanding transactions.
• Assign invoices to the correct general ledger accounts to ensure proper financial reporting.
• Investigate payment or billing issues and communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies efficiently.
• Keep supplier records current and organized, ensuring supporting documentation is complete and accessible.
• Assist with scheduled disbursements, including check processing and electronic payments such as ACH and wire transactions.
• Provide support for month-end accounts payable activities, including reconciliations and related close tasks.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience in accounts payable.
• Background working in a high-volume invoice processing environment.
• Practical knowledge of invoice matching procedures and account coding principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, data entry, sorting, and filtering.
• Experience using enterprise accounting or ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or comparable systems is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet project-based deadlines.

Compensation

$22.80-$26.40 Hourly
