Position Summary
The Billing Clerk plays a key role in supporting revenue cycle operations by ensuring accurate claim creation, timely claim submission, payment posting, and account follow-up. This position works closely with finance, billing, and clinical teams to maintain efficient billing processes, maximize reimbursement, and support compliance with payer and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 3 years of medical or dental billing experience
- Knowledge of billing and coding processes required
- Experience with government-sponsored and commercial insurance plans preferred
- Experience with practice management and electronic claims systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Successful completion of background screening required
Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities
- Review completed patient encounters and prepare accurate insurance claims.
- Submit electronic and paper claims to government and commercial payers.
- Research, correct, and resubmit rejected or denied claims.
- Post insurance payments, explanations of benefits (EOBs), and contractual adjustments.
- Apply payments accurately to patient accounts and services rendered.
- Investigate billing discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues as needed.
- Assist with accounts receivable follow-up and aging reports.
- Maintain accurate billing documentation and account notes.
- Provide billing support and guidance to front-office and clinical staff.
- Assist with patient statement processing and account balance reviews.
- Support the processing of credit balances, refunds, and account adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable privacy regulations.
- Perform additional billing and revenue cycle duties as assigned.
