The Data Scientist will work jointly with the Office of the Provost’s Institutional Research & Analytics Team and the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences to support data-informed decision-making. The Data Scientist will partner with key stakeholders in both units to provide actionable deliverables to address issues, including but not limited to, academic planning, budget/financial planning, instructional costs, student success, enrollment trends, retention, graduation rates, and faculty workloads.

The candidate must have experience working within a team environment, be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines. The candidate must be proficient in query writing (e.g., SQL) and visualization software (e.g., Tableau). In addition, the candidate must have experience designing, conducting, and interpreting statistical analyses using common statistical software tools (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, Python) and techniques (e.g. regression modeling, machine learning, data mining, clustering). Familiarity using workflow automation tools, like Alteryx, and/or experience in higher education is a plus.

Master’s Degree in Statistics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Sciences, or related field is required


Job Summary

Oversees large, complex data sets and utilizes advanced programming methods and statistical software for raw data extraction and aggregation, statistical analysis, and document programming to create analytic data files. Creates statistical reports; assists with manuscripts, grants, and regulatory submissions. Maintains data infrastructure and tracks data assets. Adheres to all protocols.


Essential Functions

The Data Scientist will extract, scrub, and analyze institutional data from various sources (e.g., student information system, HR system, financial system); develop dashboards and visualizations using Tableau; apply statistical and machine learning techniques to identify patterns and predict outcomes; and document methodologies and workflows, using tools like Python, R, or Alteryx.
