About the Job:
The Vice President, Medical Affairs leads the medical affairs function and is a member of the Medical Leadership Team. The incumbent is responsible for aligning efforts on clinical and research implementation for customers, new innovations and technology with changing landscape of diagnostics, knowledge exchange, data communications, and leading Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement. Additionally, this global role collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders including the Commercial, Communications, Regulatory and Market Access teams. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate and current scientific and medical knowledge across the team, confirming that the field organization develops trusted relationships with clinicians, elevating the voice of the field to Medical and FMI leadership, and serving as a spokesperson for Medical Affairs both internally and externally.The Vice President puts patients at the forefront and acts as a guardian for high standards of compliance, ethics, and safety of FMI services globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership
- Lead all aspects of the Medical Affairs function including but not limited to the Medical Strategy, Medical Communications & External Programs, and Field teams.
- Recruit, develop and manage a high functioning and productive Medical Affairs team.
- Serve as a principal spokesperson for Medical Affairs and FMI, representing Medical Affairs externally, in FMIs enterprise strategy, and on the Medical Leadership Team.
- Advise and influence other executives, both within Medical and across FMI, providing insights that lead to key decision making across the business.
- Establish functional budget and approve proposed budgets for supporting teams.
- Strategy
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Medical Affairs function, including overall objectives and long-range goals.
- Develop, lead, and drive the implementation of the strategic vision and direction for field teams to ensure education of the FMI product and pipeline portfolio across diverse sets of external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement strategies to support Lifecycle Management of FMIs portfolio.
- Develop and implement an integrated, multi-year Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and Collaborative Network strategy.
- Medical Communication, Education and Support
- Collaborate with Clinical Development, Commercial, Communications, and other cross-functional teams to develop and articulate FMIs market shaping scientific, medical, and high-quality narrative to internal and external audiences.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with KOLs, consultants and key clinicians on matters pertaining to Medical Affairs.
- Serve as the Medical Affairs spokesperson for a wide range of venues, both internally and externally, such as committee meetings, KOL engagement, Molecular Tumor Boards, and relevant corporate functions.
- Develop field team strategy for implementation of clinical and research programs with Commercial partners, including clinical best practices, education and workflows, dissemination of impactful scientific and clinical knowledge, and customer engagement strategies (HCP/KOL/key accounts/organized customers/networks0.
- Develop impactful medical content to be delivered in multiple formats; provide training to ensure consistent, engaging, and compliant delivery of medical content by Medical Field Team.
- Review and approve key scientific communications, medical information documents and commercial documents within policies, legal and compliance regulations.
- Develop and maintain/scale team to address highest complexity clinical support cases globally.
- Partner with Commercial to maintain the Speakers Bureau.
- Develop and implement with cross-functional partners a patient support strategy and plan.
- Medical Insights
- Lead team to share medical knowledge and customer insights related to the FMI portfolio with cross-functional partners.
- Provide early insights on new services and indications in collaboration with Clinical Development.
- Identify and develop scientific relationships with external KOLs to plan and execute relevant scientific advisory boards and expert meetings.
- Other
- Ensure seamless integration and partnership between Roche Global Medical Affairs and FMIs Medical Affairs.
- Ensure appropriate medical input and review to support marketing, commercial intelligence, corporate communication, and sales promotional material and activities.
- Engage internal leaders/teams across FMI to ensure that field medical is addressing the educational needs of the healthcare community through continuous insights gathering, action planning, and innovation while maintaining the highest compliance standards.
- Collaborate with Market Access team to provide relevant data on dedicated products.
- Translate insights from the external medical community into meaningful adjustments to field medical strategy and tactics.
- Lead and encourage innovative approaches in field medical by staying abreast of industry benchmarks and evolving field models.
- Set high ethical standards and ensure implementation and complete adherence to policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and compliance guidelines.
- Ability to travel at least 30% of working time.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- MD with experience in oncology, genomics or a quantitative science
- 10+ years of progressive work experience in scientific or medical roles within the life science or in medical affairs industry
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD within oncology, genomics or a quantitative science
- 10+ years of progressively responsible work experience in scientific or medical roles within the medical affairs industry or in clinical practice
- 5+ years of experience in field medical
- Expert domain knowledge of oncology
- Strong understanding in genomics and oncology, with a network of biotech, oncology, diagnostic and venture capital contacts
- Knowledge of the overall drug discovery, development, and commercialization process relevant to pharmaceutical/biotechnology organizations
- Proven track record of effective team development, leadership and management experience across multiple countries and cultures
- Experience in building and managing internal and external relationships, including global partners and KOLs
- Experience in development and implementation of clinical trials
- Experience in the principles and techniques of data analysis, interpretation, and clinical relevance
- Experience in delivery of scientific communications to internal and external audiences
- Effective talent management and development experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skillset
- Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Remote is $345,000 - $420,000 per year. The salary range is commensurate with Foundation Medicines compensation practice and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, criticality of role, and internal equity. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for Foundation Medicine's benefits.
