The Environmental Engineer position reports to their Team Leader (TL) and is responsible for supporting site characterization, remediation, and environmental compliance projects for our industrial, commercial, and municipal clients.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Designing remediation systems; documenting results and findings of data collection, technical evaluations, and design activities; and preparing plans and specifications for the investigation and remediation of hazardous waste sites and brownfields
  • Implementing stormwater compliance projects under the California Industrial General Permit for clients in a range of industries, including pollutant source assessments, identification of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) for implementation, design of advanced BMPs for stormwater treatment, and preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans and Exceedance Response Action reports
  • Leading field investigations and ensuring that workplans are followed correctly and data handled appropriately; field work will include site inspections and sampling of environmental media (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, and outdoor air)
  • Performing and overseeing operation and maintenance tasks on various types of remediation systems for groundwater treatment, vapor intrusion mitigation, soil vapor extraction (SVE), air sparging, and non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) recovery
  • Overseeing and documenting subcontractor activities on client sites and ensuring that work scopes are followed
  • Performing Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) compliance audits and implementing follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and permits
  • Collating, tabulating, and interpreting data and developing conceptual models to support identification of contaminant sources and routes of exposure to human health and the environment
  • Contributing to proposal efforts, including preparation of cost estimates and development of project scopes
  • Contributing to business development efforts, including participation in networking functions and preparing and delivering technical presentations at conferences as an external representative of EKI 
  • Managing project schedules
  • Other duties as required


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar degree required; Master’s degree preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an engineer in the environmental engineering/consulting field
  • Experience with site investigation planning, site remediation design and construction, and operation and maintenance of environmental remediation systems preferred
  • Professional Engineer license or Engineer-In-Training certification preferred
  • Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP) certification or interest in obtaining preferred
  • OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred but not required
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3d and ESRI Pro preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and short turnaround deadlines
  • Must have the ability to obtain medical clearance to work on hazardous waste site(s)
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Must be able to work 10-hour days when needed 
  • Must be able to work remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information
  • Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight, for client meetings and site visits up to 50% of the time
