Job purpose

Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of lathes and milling machines to achieve production goals and efficiency standards. Requires strong attention to detail and the ability to manufacture and inspect precision components with close tolerances. Ensures product quality through in-process inspections, accurate measurements, and adherence to established quality and safety standards.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a variety of lathes and milling machines to manufacture precision components according to specifications and quality requirements.
  • Adjust machine offsets and tooling as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality.
  • Perform frequent machine setups in support of high-mix, low-volume production environments.
  • Cross-train and operate additional machine tools as required to support production demands.
  • Conduct basic machine maintenance, including changing fluids, filters, and performing routine equipment upkeep.
  • Read and interpret process sheets, blueprints, mechanical drawings, job travelers, and other production documentation.
  • Work from written and verbal instructions to complete machining operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company safety policies and 5S standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training certificate in machining or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, indicators, and calipers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and process documentation.
  • Understanding of both Metric and Imperial (English) measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, cutting fluids, machining processes, and material properties preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime or extended hours as needed to meet production requirements.

Working conditions

  • Manufacturing and production environment.
  • Exposure to industrial oils, coolants, solvents, lubricants, adhesives, and other chemicals while following established safety procedures.
  • Requires occasional independent decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Some repetitive motion and repetitive tasks may be required.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and parts weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements and tasks associated with machining operations.
