Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Managed Care is seeking a Correctional Psychiatrist to provide high-quality mental health care for patients at the Allred Unit, located in Wichita Falls, Texas. This role involves diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conducting psychiatric evaluations, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Schedule: Predominantly telehealth with one week onsite every 8 weeks, offering and excellent balance of flexibility and meaningful clinical work.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Performs as a responsible and cooperative team member. Adheres to institutional standards of ethics and professional conduct. On time for appointments and meetings. Considerate of work space and time of other staff. Maintains confidence regarding personal lives of colleagues. Maintains a responsible, task-oriented demeanor on the job. Communicates with others in a respectful, courteous manner.
  • Inspects, completes and analyzes records, assigns, reviews and updates classifications, completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds and patients as required.
  • Examines inmate patients to determine general mental health and prescribes treatment in conjunction with treatment teams input and orders medication as needed.
  • Clinically and administratively supervises assigned Advanced Practice Providers (APP's)
  • Takes rotating regional call to ensure there is continuous psychiatric coverage within the TTUHSC regions.
  • Refers patients to medical specialist or practitioner for specialized treatment as needed.


Required Qualifications

Education/Experience: Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) or equivalent plus 3 years related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience. License/Certifications: State Medical license. Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificates

Preferred Qualifications

  • Corrections or State Hospital experience preferred but not required.
