The On-Call Sr. Staff Physicist owns responsibility for the technical direction of optical systems design, development, implementation, testing and delivery with a special emphasis on optical coatings. The Sr. Staff Physicist acts as a technical leader and advisor for the engineering and operations/production teams as well as an advisor to the program manager. The Sr. Staff Physicist coordinates across engineering and operations/production disciplines on the program to ensure that the teams adhere to engineering processes in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
This position will be an On-Call Position, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.
The salary range is based on a full-time schedule and will be prorated to the extent the
schedule is reduced.
Basic Qualifications for On-Call Sr. Staff Physicist:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or other STEM related field with 14+ years of related experience, MS degree in STEM field with 12+ years of related experience, or PhD in STEM field with 10+ years of related experience
- 5+ years of related engineering experience working in an engineering organization at a defense contractor during EMD and/or LRIP phases
- Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience in creating and delivering technical presentations to internal and external leadership
- Experience working collaboratively on complex projects that encompass hardware, software, and firmware
- Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a U.S. Government Secret Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications for On-Call Sr. Staff Physicist:
- Experience in the engineering process from proposal / requirements analysis through verification testing and fielding of systems
- Experience in Integration & Test environments of: EOIR systems, sensors, optics, optical coatings
- Experience in the oversight and root cause analysis of optical coating failures
- Experience decomposing requirements for DoD-based platforms or systems
- Expertise in optical systems modeling and analysis tools (e.g., MathCAD, ZEMAX, Microsoft Excel).
- Ability to develop and maintain system models, traceability matrices, and verification cross‑reference artifacts
- Active U.S. Government Secret or Top Secret security clearance
