Payroll Specialist

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a large employee population in Portland, Maine. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who is confident managing end-to-end payroll activities across multiple states while maintaining compliance and a high level of accuracy. The role requires strong experience with payroll platforms and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Process complete payroll cycles for a workforce of more than 500 employees, ensuring pay is issued accurately and on schedule.
• Administer payroll activities for employees working in multiple states, applying the correct tax withholdings and jurisdictional requirements.
• Review payroll data for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues related to earnings, deductions, and time reporting.
• Maintain employee payroll records and update compensation, tax, and direct deposit information within payroll systems.
• Use ADP Workforce Now and Paycor to support payroll processing, reporting, and ongoing record maintenance.
• Partner with internal teams to gather payroll inputs, validate changes, and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Prepare payroll reports and assist with audits, reconciliations, and documentation requests as needed.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience handling full-cycle payroll from data review through final processing.
• Background managing payroll for employees across multiple states with knowledge of related compliance requirements.
• Hands-on proficiency with ADP Workforce Now.
• Experience using Paycor in a payroll environment.
• Ability to support payroll processing for organizations with more than 500 employees.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct payroll discrepancies.
• Effective communication and organizational skills for managing deadlines and coordinating with stakeholders.

Compensation

$23.75-$27.50 Hourly
