Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Systems Engineer (level 6) to work with our Sentinel Systems Engineering, Integration, & Test (SEIT) Business Unit and be a contributing member of the System Integration and Sustainment (SIS) Enterprise Systems Integration (ESI) team. This multi-tiered and multi-disciplined team assesses external systems interfaces and mission scenario operational threads across the Weapon System (WS). The team serves as system integrators to facilitate systems of systems interoperability and joint systems integration in partnership with customer counterparts and other key stakeholders across the enterprise.  This position may be located either in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program.

The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment. Candidates for this position must be able to understand the intent of WS integration at the highest levels and drive engineering processes & analyses to prove successful design integration and analyze for potential gaps. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership and foundational systems engineering skills to drive process and technical gap resolution of external interfaces to achieve program and contract objectives. Responsibilities include:

  • Prime Technical Lead/Responsible Engineer (RE) for one of the external systems Mission Integration Threads which may include facilities, data, networks/comms, SW, HW and/or flight test readiness.
  • Perform technical oversight, review, approval, and accountability of ESI technical content to ensure technical rigor and quality
  • Provide technical leadership, direction and mentoring to other ESI team members
  • Customer Technical Interface/Liaison with the Customer – Participate in technical review boards and regular interface and relationship cultivation with Customer Chief Engineers as required
  • Lead Integration activities in support of systems-of-systems integration which may include integration test planning, problem identification and reporting, integration event execution, coordination with multiple stakeholders to facilitate effective and efficient communication
  • Assist in the analysis of controls with other ESI team members, and input information into various tracking tools (DOORS, CAMEO, CPLM/TeamCenter)
  • A high degree of skill in critical decision making is imperative to perform in this environment.
  • Extensive experience in the performance of integration tests is required. This position requires skills in coordination of many tests and testing facilities external and internal to NGC.
  • Participate in technical planning, verification and validation development, cost and risk considerations, and requirements analyses for integrated systems
  • Be proficient in the development of key system engineering artifacts such as requirement specifications, interface definition documents, integration event planning, test procedures and reports

The selected candidate should thrive working in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, engaged in significantly diverse assignments, within a collaborative/team setting across all levels of the WS enterprise to include NG, SPO, and mission/industry partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 14 years of experience; 12 years of experience with a Masters’ degree in STEM; or 10 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Must be a U.S Citizen with an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).
  • 8-10 years of experience with Product Owner and Product Manager core responsibilities
  • 8-10 years of experience in ICBM (MMIII or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems
  • 4 years of experience on large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.
  • 1 year of experience with Systems Engineering program milestone events (e.g., PDR, CDR)
  • 1 year of experience working with external customers to meet program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • 1 year of experience supporting DoD contracts and/or large supplier management portfolio experience in other industries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems-of-systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Experience executing and boarding Risks, Issues & Opportunities
  • DOORS, CAMEO, CPLM/TeamCenter experience
  • Experience collaborating with multiple functional groups, subcontracts, and government customer representatives
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Customer-focused mindset with proven leadership skills and excellent communication skills

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
