Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a busy corporate accounting team in Houston, Texas. This contract-to-permanent position is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume setting and can keep payables moving accurately and efficiently. The role will play an important part in clearing outstanding items, supporting daily payment activity, and partnering with internal teams to keep invoice workflows on track. An immediate start is available for someone who is detail-oriented and can contribute quickly in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee large-volume invoice processing by reviewing submissions, assigning accurate coding, entering data, and completing three-way matching against purchase orders and receipts.
• Execute vendor disbursements through electronic payments, wire transfers, and check runs while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
• Coordinate with approvers across multiple departments to secure invoice authorizations and keep payment schedules from slipping.
• Reconcile supplier statements, investigate payment variances, and resolve outstanding discrepancies with internal and external contacts.
• Help reduce aged payables by addressing backlog items and ensuring unresolved invoices are researched and cleared.
• Maintain organized accounts payable documentation and follow established internal control procedures to support compliance.
• Prepare audit-related support and assist with accounts payable reporting to provide visibility into payment activity and open items.
• Work within Microsoft Dynamics SL and manage purchase-order-based invoice activity tied to plant operations, including support for future system-related changes.
• Use Excel to monitor accounts payable data, update tracking files, and maintain reporting accuracy.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of accounts payable experience in a high-volume processing environment.
• Solid knowledge of end-to-end accounts payable operations, including invoice coding, matching, payment processing, and reconciliation.
• Experience navigating manual processes and multi-step approval workflows within a corporate setting.
• Ability to work independently with limited oversight while managing priorities in a lean team environment.
• Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail and consistent follow-through on outstanding items.
• Proficiency in Excel for maintaining spreadsheets, tracking activity, and working with existing reports.
• Familiarity with payment methods such as ACH and check runs; experience with Microsoft Dynamics is an advantage.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, operations, and other internal teams.

Compensation

$28.00-$30.00 Hourly
