Accounting Specialist

We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join a healthcare-focused organization in Columbia, South Carolina. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting knowledge, a service-minded approach, and the ability to stay organized in a fast-moving environment. The position centers heavily on accounts payable while also supporting broader accounting operations across multiple locations. Success in this role will come from accuracy, initiative, and the ability to work effectively with teams across the organization.

Responsibilities:
• Process a high volume of accounts payable transactions accurately and in accordance with established payment timelines.
• Support day-to-day accounting activities, including billing tasks, receivable follow-up, and general financial record maintenance.
• Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies to help maintain complete and reliable financial data.
• Coordinate weekly check run preparation and ensure payments are reviewed and issued on schedule.
• Partner with staff across departments and locations to resolve invoice questions, clarify account details, and support smooth financial operations.
• Contribute to overall accounting workflow improvements by taking ownership of assigned tasks and adapting to shifting departmental needs.
• Assist with financial activity related to multiple sites and expanding service lines while maintaining strong attention to detail.
• Use Financial Edge and other accounting tools to enter, track, and manage transactions efficiently.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in accounts payable, with the ability to manage invoice volume in a deadline-driven setting.
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable, billing support, account reconciliation, and general accounting practices.
• Hands-on experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or closely related accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail and a consistent track record of producing accurate work.
• Ability to communicate professionally and collaborate with different departments to resolve financial issues.
• Self-motivated approach with the confidence to take initiative and manage responsibilities independently.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to meet recurring weekly deadlines.

Compensation

$21.85-$25.30 Hourly
