Function of Position:

The Specialist, Career Technical Education (CTE) supports the growth, coordination, engagement, and successful participation of students in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and initiatives. This position focuses primarily on outreach, recruitment, program support, student engagement, partnership development, and operational coordination for both credit and non-credit CTE programming.

The CTE Specialist serves as a connector between students, faculty, school districts, community organizations, workforce partners, and college departments to help promote access to and participation in CTE opportunities. While the position includes a limited student-support component, primary academic advising and case management responsibilities remain with the College-assigned Student Success Coach and related student services offices.

The CTE Specialist works with students enrolled in credit, non-credit, and consortium training programs and reports to the division of Economic Development & Innovative Workforce Services (EDIWS). The position may also assist with activities, documentation, reporting support, and partnership coordination associated with Perkins-funded programs and initiatives.

While the position is not primarily advising-focused, the CTE Specialist may maintain a limited caseload of students requiring additional support, transition assistance, or program guidance in coordination with the College-assigned Student Success Coach and related student services offices.

*This is a temporary, grant-funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of annual grant funding, positive performance reviews, and the employee remaining in good standing. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Supports recruitment, outreach, and engagement activities for Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and initiatives, including community events, presentations, campus visits, and career fairs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with high schools, community organizations, industry partners, workforce agencies, and other external stakeholders to promote CTE programming.
  • Assists prospective and current students with enrollment navigation, onboarding, transition support, and connection to appropriate college and community resources.
  • Maintains a limited student support caseload focused on engagement, retention, transition assistance, and basic academic/program guidance in collaboration with Student Success Coaches and student support offices.
  • Coordinates with Admissions, Financial Aid, Career Services, Student Services, faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success and smooth onboarding/enrollment processes.
  • Delivers presentations and informational sessions regarding CTE pathways, workforce opportunities, and educational programming.
  • Assists with tracking participation, engagement, outreach, and program-related data while maintaining accurate records for reporting and grant compliance purposes.
  • Supports special projects, workforce development initiatives, community engagement efforts, and Perkins grant objectives as a member of the Perkins project team.

Secondary Functions:

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Perkins Director or supervising manager/director.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned an associate's degree from a regionally-accredited higher education institution.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with students, families, schools, employers, and community organizations.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Knowledge of community resources and workforce support systems preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexible and able to travel locally and occasionally nationally to schools, organizations, conferences, and events as needed.
  • Ability to research, develop, implement, and assess outreach and networking strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited higher education institution.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.
  • Previous experience in workforce development, recruitment, student engagement, community outreach, or higher education.
  • Experience working with underserved and diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of DegreeWorks, Banner, Self-Service Banner, or similar student information systems.


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $55,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.

This position involves primarily sedentary work, including prolonged periods of computer use and keyboarding. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. The position may occasionally involve lifting or moving items up to 10 pounds. Work is performed in a typical office environment with no adverse conditions. Occasional travel between campus buildings or to other local or out-of-town locations for meetings or conferences may be required.

Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
