Payroll Specialist
Responsibilities:
• Manage biweekly payroll reconciliations and maintain balanced payroll-related records to support accurate reporting.
• Prepare certified payroll documentation, billing details, and required reports in compliance with applicable standards.
• Review monthly payroll and accounting information across related records, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
• Maintain audit controls between payroll and general ledger activity to help ensure reliable financial reporting.
• Analyze complex payroll transactions and provide guidance to team members on appropriate accounting treatment.
• Conduct internal reviews across payroll processes, document findings, and assemble support materials for external audits.
• Participate in regular reviews of hours, earnings, and payroll files before final approval and transmission.
• Record completion of audit steps thoroughly and escalate exceptions or concerns to payroll leadership when needed.
• Assist with training and day-to-day support for entry-level payroll staff as assigned.
• Stay current on payroll, accounting, tax, and labor requirements through ongoing development and applied learning.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in payroll, accounting, or a related field.• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with payroll processing and timekeeping systems.
• Strong understanding of general ledger activity and core accounting principles.
• Working knowledge of payroll tax rules, labor regulations, garnishments, and multi-state payroll practices.
• Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Word, Excel, and payroll-related software tools.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and solve problems effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work professionally across all levels of an organization.
• High attention to detail, sound judgment with sensitive information, and a collaborative approach to supporting coworkers and vendors.
Compensation
