Payroll Specialist

Our client is looking for a payroll specialist to join their team on a contract basis. This role will be 100% remote, but this person must sit in the Houston area.

Responsibilities:

• Manage biweekly payroll processing across multiple company codes in ADP Workforce Now, ensuring accurate pay for a large employee population that includes salaried and hourly staff.

• Review and process payroll transactions for a multi-state workforce, applying state-specific rules, including California pay practices, with close attention to precision and timing.

• Assist with employee expense activities through Concur and help ensure related payments are handled accurately and on schedule.

• Support recurring wire transfer activity during the workweek to meet payment needs for employees in California.

• Address payroll compliance matters such as garnishments, child support deductions, tax identification requirements, and tax notices across multiple states.

• Maintain payroll records, enter employee and verification data into internal systems, and keep supporting documentation organized and audit-ready.

• Work closely with the payroll team to resolve notices, coordinate tax-related items, and maintain clear internal communication.

• Provide responsive support to field personnel to promote consistent payroll service and clear communication across the organization.

• Contribute additional time during payroll cycles when needed to meet strict deadlines and uphold payroll accuracy.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of payroll experience, including direct use of ADP Workforce Now.

• Demonstrated experience processing payroll across multiple company codes is required.

• Working knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations, with familiarity in California payroll practices strongly preferred.

• Experience handling garnishments, child support orders, tax notices, and payroll-related compliance documentation.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

• Willingness to work on-site in Houston, Texas once per week to manage mail and payroll documentation.
