Payroll Specialist
We’re looking for a Union Payroll Specialist to join our team in the Des Moines area. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in getting the details right. What You’ll Do
Own the Payroll Process
- Process weekly payroll for union field employees (ironworkers, operators, laborers)
- Accurately calculate wages, overtime, double time, and contract-specific pay rules
- Review timecards and job coding to ensure precision and compliance
Be the Union & Compliance Expert
- Interpret and apply multiple collective bargaining agreements (CBAs)
- Manage union deductions, including dues, benefits, and pension contributions
- Ensure compliance with prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements
- Prepare and submit reports to union benefit funds
Drive Accuracy & Accountability
- Reconcile payroll, union reports, and general ledger entries
- Support audits and ensure all reporting is timely and accurate
- Serve as a trusted resource for payroll questions from employees and management
- Quickly resolve discrepancies and ensure employees are paid correctly and on time

Qualifications:
What You Bring
Must-Have Experience
- 3+ years of union payroll experience (construction or related industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Multi-state payroll processing
- Experience with payroll systems
- Advanced Excel skills
Nice to Have
- Background in heavy construction
- Experience working with multiple union locals
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
