Accounts Payable Specialist

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist for our client in the nonprofit industry in San Diego, California. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with experience processing invoices, managing vendor payments, and maintaining accurate financial records in a mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate is organized, deadline-driven, and committed to accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process a high volume of vendor invoices and ensure timely, accurate payment
• Review invoices for proper approval, coding, and supporting documentation
• Maintain vendor records and respond to payment-related inquiries
• Prepare check runs, ACH payments, and other disbursements
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
• Assist with month-end close activities, including accruals and account reconciliations
• Monitor expense allocations and help ensure transactions are recorded accurately
• Support audit preparation by maintaining organized files and documentation
• Help ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve invoice and payment issues

Qualifications:

Preferred Nonprofit Industry Experience:

• Experience working in nonprofit, grant-funded, or mission-driven organizations
• Familiarity with restricted funds, program expense tracking, or donor-related reporting is a plus
• Understanding of nonprofit accounting practices and audit support is helpful

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of accounts payable or related accounting experience
• Strong understanding of invoice processing, vendor management, reconciliations, and payment processing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar platforms
• Familiarity with accounting operations, reconciliations, and software tools commonly requested by employers
