The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Bethel Musculoskeletal Research Center (BMRC) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, are recruiting a full-time faculty member for a Non-tenure track faculty position at the Associate Professor (6-9 years of experience) or Professor (10 years of experience) level.

Position Summary: The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery/Orland Bethel Family Musculoskeletal Research Center (BMRC) seek an accomplished leader for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank in the non-tenure stream. This role focuses on life sciences and digital venture capital, healthcare innovation, and commercialization.
The selected candidate will lead efforts to translate biomedical discoveries and digital technologies into real-world impact by advancing startup development, industry partnerships, and venture investment activity across the Pitt and Orthopedic innovation ecosystem.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Lead and support commercialization of faculty-driven research initiatives
• Provide expertise in venture capital, including deal sourcing, due diligence, and investment strategy
• Develop educational programming in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship
• Mentor faculty, trainees, and students in translational research pathways
• Collaborate with the Innovation Institute, Office of Technology Management, and clinical departments
• Contribute to scholarly activity aligned with APT criteria
• Serve in institutional leadership roles supporting innovation and faculty development
Qualifications Required:
• MD, PhD in Bioengineering, or equivalent
• Experience in venture capital, private equity, or healthcare startup leadership
• Scholarly track record consistent with academic rank
• Demonstrated success in commercialization, fundraising, or company development
Preferred:
• Experience in academic medicine, digital technologies, and venture capital
• Track record of startup growth or successful exits
• National recognition in healthcare innovation
