We seek a creative, self-motivated scientist with excellent interpersonal, writing, and problem-solving skills to join our dynamic research team in chemical biology. The ideal candidate has a robust background in chemistry, biology, or related discipline, showcasing expertise in in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing projects. Expertise in (chemical) proteomics is ideal. They are able to, independently or in collaboration, prepare manuscripts, research proposals, and research presentations. Prior experience in supervising students or technicians is a plus. The position is a "hard money" position and the successful candidate will be able to raise through the ranks to associate and full research professor.

Job Duties

  • conducts scientific research projects from inception to publication, including planning, organizing, and performing experiments - with a focus on protein mass spec data generation and analysis
  • prepares and contributes to manuscripts, grant applications, and research presentations
  • supervises group members, including assigning and reviewing work
  • trains other lab members in experimental techniques, instrument use, data analysis, as well as scientific writing
  • helps to maintains select scientific equipment, including mass spectrometers for proteomics
  • helps to direct research programs and laboratory operations and manages laboratory policies and procedures

Qualifications

A PhD in chemistry, biology, or a related field is required. Postdoctoral experience, as well as experience in proteomics, is preferred. Working experience in chemical biology, especially as it relates to the development of new therapeutic approaches, is a plus

Amount of Supervision received by the employee: Requires minimal supervision. Work is expected to be done autonomously or collaboratively.

Level of Autonomy: Exercises discretion and independence.

Complexity, Accountability and Scope: Work is complex and can be strategic in nature. Decisions and actions have a direct impact on the lab and a high level of problem-solving skills is required.

Management Responsibilities: Might work independently or may lead collaborative research projects, including supervision of staff and students.
