Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
Portland State University is a public institution chartered by the State of Oregon and is fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Founded in 1946 as an extension school for GIs returning home after World War II, PSU is now Oregon’s only urban public research university encompassing 50 city blocks, nine schools and colleges, and offers over 200 degree programs. During the most recent academic year, 19,687 students were enrolled at PSU, including approximately 900 international students from 61 countries. PSU currently employs approximately 5,200 people, including 1,500 research and instructional faculty members.

Position Summary
The full-time Program Director will lead the School of Business Financial Wellness Initiative, “Investing for the Future.” This initiative equips students with foundational knowledge in personal finance, investing, and long-term wealth building, with a focus on advancing social and economic mobility. The position combines program leadership with instructional responsibilities. The Program Director will oversee program strategy, operations, and partnerships while contributing to teaching and curriculum development related to personal finance.

As appropriate, the Program Director role may also include involvement in accreditation and Assurance of Learning management. The Program Director will report directly to the Dean, but in the position’s capacity also works collaboratively with all faculty and staff, the Associate Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, the Associate Dean of Faculty & Research and the Assistant Dean of Student Success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in financial advisory, wealth management, or related industry
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or train individuals in personal finance or related topics
  • Experience managing programs, projects, or operations
  • Strong knowledge of personal finance, investing, and financial markets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education
  • Professional certifications such as CFP, CFA, or similar
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved student populations
  • Familiarity with IRA/Roth IRA regulations and financial education programming

Work Days/Hours 40 hours/week; minimum of 4 days in person; possible one day remote, depending on the needs of the program
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual salary for this position will be $74,232 – $76,500 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
