Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a full-time position available in Newport News, VA, for a Shipboard Elevator Mechanical Repair Support Technician II.

Summary:

The Shipboard Elevator Mechanical Repair Support Technician is essential for providing technical assistance to the Equipment Support Unit (ESU) during aircraft carrier maintenance, modernization, and overhaul availabilities. This technician diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs shipboard elevator systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation in support of U.S. Navy fleet readiness.

In collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams, the technician conducts inspections, performs preventive maintenance, and makes necessary modifications to maintain the aircraft carrier's readiness throughout the RCOH. A strong understanding of elevator mechanics and problem-solving skills is required for success in this challenging maritime environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • When not working in their primary specialty they will be required to assist other trades specialties in the performance of their work including by not limited to standing fire watch / safety watch.

  • Shall have and be able to possess the following:

    • Provide basic hand tools and specialty tools required for their trade specialty.

    • Able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes of no less than 30 pounds.

    • Able to work aboard ships in a shipyard environment under industrial conditions.

    • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, and in confined spaces.

• Individual may be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints,

oils, greases, various cleaning solutions, and solvents requiring the use of Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE) to include a respirator.

• All personnel assigned must have the below qualifications and they must be current:

I Fire Watch qualified.

II PFAS qualified.

III Respirator qualified to include a physical and fit test.

IV OSHA 7615 Shipyard Employment 10-hour training course.

  • May require overtime.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.

  • Desire four (5) or more years of experience as an electrical engineering technician supporting shipboard elevators and conveyors.

  • Desire a NAVSEA accredited cargo/weapons elevator assessor certification within the last five years.

  • Shall be familiar with elevator, door, and conveyor terminology, including the following: Terms defined and used in Naval Ships' Technical Manual (NSTM) Chapter 772, NSTM Chapter 588, NSTM chapter 572, NSTM chapter 300, and MIL-E-17807. Terms used in Common Assessment Procedures, System Operability Tests, and applicable portions of the General Specifications for Overhaul (GSO).

  • Demonstrate an ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.

  • Must be knowledgeable in interpreting, reviewing and applying work specifications, auxiliary system maintenance standards/practices, repair procedures and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, inspections, visit

  • processes and reporting methods for visits

  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.

  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting ship’s drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks.

  • Ability to interact and support other inspection teams such as but not limited to INSURV, ERAT.

  • Familiarity with JFMM guidelines and policies.

  • Comply with NAVSEA standard items.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Functional knowledge of MS Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with ILS-LOGICOM and experience with TA&R and Fleet Scheduling Center (FSC) is a plus.

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to work in an office environment. May sit for long periods of time.

  • Must also be able to work in a shipyard environment and on naval vessels on occasion.

  • Must be able to get up and down ladders and in tight spaces where required.

  • May require PPE in certain environments (hard hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses, etc.)
