Major/Essential Functions
- Provides medical care by interviewing, examining, and treating patients;
- Educates patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families;
- Determines level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments;
- Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients;
- Orders studies, test and ancillary services;
- Documents all services in patient medical record;
- Consults with other departments and medical staff professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues;
- Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital or clinic requirements;
- Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, patient care, research and service;
- Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures;
- Teaches internal medicine residents, outside rotators, NP's, PA's and medical students through lectures and in clinics/hospitals.
- Giving lectures and teaching sessions to fellows, residents and medical students.
Occasional Duties
- Providing coverage for faculty within the department as requested or needed.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of, or in the process of completing an ACGME Internal Medicine Residency Program;
- Must hold or be eligible for ABIM board certification (or in training to become board eligible).
- Completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 3
