Construction Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Construction Accountant to join a growing commercial construction team in Franklin, Tennessee. This position blends core accounting work with day-to-day operational support, making it ideal for someone who is organized, self-directed, and comfortable handling a wide range of responsibilities. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting fundamentals, confidence working in Excel and accounting systems, and the ability to keep pace in a deadline-driven project environment.

Responsibilities:
• Record journal entries for payroll, accruals, recurring costs, and other general ledger activity to maintain accurate financial records.
• Contribute to the monthly close process by completing reconciliations, reviewing account activity, and preparing necessary adjustments.
• Generate customer invoices, validate schedules of values, and partner with project leaders to support timely monthly billing.
• Monitor project budgets, contract values, and revenue tracking to help maintain accurate job financials.
• Prepare accounts payable reporting for project managers, review corporate card activity, and ensure expenses are coded correctly.
• Assist with collections efforts by following up on outstanding receivables and communicating with clients as needed.
• Complete sales tax filings, support year-end 1099 processing, and reconcile insurance-related expense accounts.
• Process payroll support data such as timecards, reimbursements, mileage, and per diem, and enter related payroll journal entries into Sage.
• Oversee shared accounting and administrative requests, manage compliance documentation, maintain system access, and support business filings, insurance renewals, and audit preparation.

Qualifications:

• 3 to 5+ years of recent accounting experience with direct responsibility for transactional and general ledger activity.

• Practical knowledge of journal entries, debits and credits, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures.

• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to use formulas effectively for analysis and reporting.

• Experience working in accounting software; familiarity with Sage Intacct or Sage 100 Contractor is preferred.

• Ability to manage competing priorities independently and deliver accurate work within deadlines.

• Willingness to support both accounting duties and administrative or operational tasks as business needs require.

• Construction accounting or project-based accounting experience is REQUIRED.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

Compensation

$70,000.00-$85,000.00 Yearly
