Position Summary:


The Water Environment Federation (WEF) in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Membership Specialist to support the Membership team through a blend of administrative, operational, and programmatic responsibilities. This position serves as a key resource for the team, helping to execute membership processes and strategies, maintain data integrity, provide exceptional member support, and contribute to retention, engagement, and reporting efforts. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, strong attention to detail, and an interest in using data and process improvements to strengthen the member’s experience.

The successful Membership Specialist candidate will demonstrate initiative, problem solving, agility, inclusivity, and team player experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working in high-performing teams and demonstrate success working across and supporting mission-based organizations. A desire to help WEF serve the Water Community is critical.


Key Responsibilities:

• Support and help implement individual and organizational membership recruitment and renewal strategies.

• Maintain accurate database records and process membership applications, renewals, upgrades, and changes in Fonteva in a timely manner.

• Manage Utility Partnership Program membership processing by processing new memberships, renewals, and account updates. Communicate with program contacts about roster updates and respond to related member inquiries.

• Assist with volunteer management and community engagement initiatives and communication.

• Assist with customer and member outreach to improve retention and engagement.

• Deliver exceptional customer service in response to customer inquiries received via mail, email, phone; etc.

• Collaborate with staff and stakeholders across teams to coordinate membership activities, resolve issues, and support program goals.

• Attend and support the annual conference and other events as needed, including member-related logistics and follow-up.

• Other duties as assigned, within scope of the position.


Qualifications & Skills:

· HS degree required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

· 2+ years of experience in membership association or similar organization.

· Strong customer service skills with a member-first mindset.

· Ability to work collaboratively in formal teams and informal working groups, as well as independently.

· Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills.

· Experience with Fonteva or similar membership management systems preferred.

· Ability to travel up to 20%
