The University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a talented, hardworking and creative Social Media Manager to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy across varied platforms.
The Social Media Manager will work within the communications team to plan and execute strategies for the school’s current social media accounts, and develop the school’s presence on new platforms, particularly those targeting a younger demographic. This position is responsible for contributing to both long-term planning and daily content production on multiple social and digital media platforms.
The employee will:
- Create social and digital media content that is inclusive of the School of Public Health's seven departments, degree programs (graduate and undergraduate) and community (students, faculty, staff, and alumni) across a variety of platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, et al.).
- Align social media content and digital media strategies with communication and marketing objectives.
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of projects/programs/campaigns across the school.
- Measure the performance of social media accounts, campaigns and content, and regularly develop analytics reports.
- Monitor social conversations and comments on all platforms to engage with the school’s audience.
- Develop guidelines and parameters for social media across the school.
- Research new social and digital media trends, platforms, etc.
A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a combination of training and experience is essential for the position. Three years of experience developing and executing social media accounts is required. Experience in photography, videography, editing, and design (particularly in social media graphics) as well as knowledge of the Associated Press editorial style are preferred. The incumbent should have experience working in an academic setting and possess strong organizational and management skills, along with the ability to coordinate multiple projects at the same time. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a hybrid position, with three days in the office and two days remote each week.
Job Summary
Coordinates and leads digital and social media presence by managing University channels, developing and editing channel content, and managing social media calendars. Maintains University social media guidelines and branding and ensures strategic alignment with University objectives. Monitors social media engagement and utilizes digital marketing metrics. Identifies and pursues social media growth opportunities.
Essential Functions
Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally; must possess high-end reasoning and problem-solving abilities; must be able to manage multiple priorities and tasks, often under deadlines. The successful candidate will possess experience using multiple social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
Physical Effort
The position is largely sedentary, but the employee must be able to travel within the SPH building and across the University campus to attend meetings at various locations. Must be able to lift and transport equipment such as a laptop computer.
