Job Summary:
The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) serves as a strategic leader responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive human capital strategy aligned with the bank’s mission, regulatory environment, and long-term growth objectives. As a member of the Management Committee, the CHRO provides leadership across all HR functions, including HR legal & compliance, compensation, benefits, employee relations, employee experience, training and development, and talent acquisition. This role ensures the organization maintains a high-performing, compliant, and engaged workforce in a highly regulated banking environment.
Primary Functions and/or Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive leadership team on all human capital matters
- Develops and executes HR strategies that support business growth, culture, and operational excellence
- Contributes to enterprise-wide decision-making as an active member of the Management Committee
- Leads organizational design, succession planning, and workforce planning initiatives
- HR Legal & Compliance
- Ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and banking regulations
- Oversees HR policies, audits, risk mitigation strategies, and internal controls
- Partners closely with legal and compliance teams to manage employee relations and regulatory requirements
- Compensation, Benefits & Payroll
- Oversees compensation and benefits programs to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with business objectives
- Evaluates and enhances total rewards strategies to drive retention and performance
- Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Oversees recruitment strategies to attract top talent across all levels of the organization
- Builds strong employer branding and talent pipelines
- Training & Development
- Oversees leadership development, training, and performance management programs
- Fosters a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Supports succession planning, career pathing, employee engagement, and retention initiative
- Employee Engagement & Culture
- Promotes a strong organizational culture rooted in integrity, accountability, and service excellence
- Leads employee experience initiatives, engagement surveys, and action planning
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources/Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Master's Degree or advanced degree preferred (MBA, MHRM, JD, or related discipline)
- At least ten years of progressive human resources experience, including senior leadership roles, required
- Demonstrated experience in the banking or highly regulated financial services industry strongly preferred
- Proven success leading multiple HR disciplines, including compliance, compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, and learning & development
- Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and/or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification preferred
Specific Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Deep knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management required, including employment law, regulatory compliance, and HR best practices
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and partner at the Board and C-suite level
- Strategic thinker with strong operational execution capabilities
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
- Data-driven decision-making and experience leveraging HR analytics
