Position Description

Performs manual work in the care and maintenance of grounds including the care and maintenance of plants, shrubs, lawns, and the installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Utilize push mower on steep incline
  • Operates various types of mobile equipment such as tractors, mowers, Rota-vators, and edgers.
  • Cuts lawns. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • Rakes and bags leaves.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter.
  • Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
  • Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
  • Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Waters lawn and shrubs.
  • Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks.
  • Paints fences and outbuildings.
  • Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
  • Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
  • Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawnmowers, spreaders, and snow removal equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs signs, fences, barricades, and sprinkler systems.


Required Qualifications

High School or equivalent required; Knowledge of lawn tools, operation, and maintenance. One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance including experience in equipment operations.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of commercial mowing and landscaping experience.
