Sr. Accountant
Responsibilities:
• Lead the monthly and annual close cycle by preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, and ensuring reporting deadlines are met with accuracy.
• Produce and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, in alignment with applicable accounting standards.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations such as accounts payable and payroll while maintaining adherence to established financial procedures and controls.
• Prepare, post, and validate journal entries to ensure transactions are recorded correctly in the general ledger.
• Investigate account variances and reconcile sub-ledgers, bank activity, and other balance sheet accounts to resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Support the development of budgets and forecasts by compiling financial data, monitoring spending trends, and delivering monthly variance analysis.
• Manage accounting activities across more than ten programs, ensuring revenues and expenses are assigned, tracked, and reported accurately by program.
• Provide direction and quality review for the bookkeeper, offering guidance on workflow improvements and consistent accounting practices.
• Coordinate audit support and strengthen internal control processes by preparing documentation, assisting with tax-related filings, and promoting compliance with nonprofit and funder requirements.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting roles within nonprofit, healthcare, or similarly regulated environments.• Strong working knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.
• Experience preparing financial statements and analyzing results to support informed business and program decisions.
• Familiarity with payroll processing, accounts payable functions, and internal control standards.
• Ability to manage financial reporting for multiple programs or cost centers with a high level of detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies across accounting records.
• Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in an operational finance setting.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with leadership and accounting staff.
Compensation
