Controller
Responsibilities:
• Direct the organization’s accounting and financial activities, ensuring accurate records, dependable controls, and effective day-to-day fiscal management.
• Partner with executive leadership to develop long-range financial plans, annual budgets, and regular forecasts that support organizational priorities.
• Manage government funding processes by overseeing grant budgeting, documentation, compliance tracking, and timely financial reporting.
• Supervise the financial administration of affordable housing programs in coordination with property management teams, with attention to regulatory adherence and performance outcomes.
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and overall working capital to help sustain operations and fund strategic initiatives.
• Lead efforts to strengthen finance systems and internal processes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting quality.
• Oversee financial reporting for leadership and the Board, including statements, variance analysis, and insights into key financial trends.
• Coordinate external audits and regulatory reviews while maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and funding requirements.
• Mentor and develop finance staff, fostering accountability, careful growth, and high performance across the team.
• Evaluate financial risk and reinforce internal controls to protect assets and support reliable decision-making.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or controllership roles, ideally within a non-profit environment.• Demonstrated success leading financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance activities for a complex organization.
• Experience managing government grants and related reporting requirements with strong attention to accuracy and deadlines.
• Knowledge of accounting practices, internal controls, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance standards.
• Ability to interpret financial results and communicate recommendations clearly to executives, Board members, and non-financial stakeholders.
• Background overseeing multiple revenue sources such as donations, fundraising income, grants, or program-based funding.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to guide, coach, and develop finance professionals.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced credentials such as CPA are preferred.
Compensation
