Corr Medication Aide

Position Description

This position assists in the overall operation of the Unit Medication Room and distributes clients medications from filled prescriptions.

Department

Abilene Robertson Unit

Major/Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with patients to deliver and administer medications as ordered and prescribed by providers.
  • Follows compliance and departmental standards to ensure patients' safety is prioritized.
  • Ensures physical control of medications is always within department standards.
  • Clearly, concisely, and timely documents activities in patients' health records and medication administration systems.
  • Within the scope of the specific credentials of the team member, the team member will support clinical activities in the health facility under the direction of the facility director and nurse management.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.

Applicants will be considered for either a Correctional Medication Aide or Correctional Medication Aide Trainee level position based on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications

Correctional Medication Aide: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent and Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) with current credential from the Texas Department of State Health Services OR Successful completion of a certified medication aide training course and passage of State exam.

Correctional Medication Aide Trainee: HS diploma or GED. As a condition of employment, must successfully complete the Correctional Medication Aide training program, and subsequently pass the certification examination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR).
  • CPR certification
  • Previous correctional experience.
  • Previous health care experience.
