Adjunct Instructors

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, which is housed in the Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health, University of Pittsburgh, is looking for up to eight adjunct instructors for fall term (August 15-December 15, 2026).

The position reports to the Counseling Program Director. Hiring is on a single semester basis, dependent on program needs.

Professional responsibilities of a part-time adjunct instructor include, but are not limited to teaching, preparing appropriate course materials, availability for student meetings, and maintaining a professional educational environment. A syllabus that includes required course objectives, text book, course content, key assignments, and policies will be provided by the program. Curriculum responsibilities include assisting with revising course curricula and syllabi, assisting with insuring intellectual integrity of curriculum and syllabi, and ensuring that all courses taught follow standard syllabus format. Part-time instructors are required to participate in university, school, department, and program evaluations of teaching effectiveness, including OMETs and peer review, and to maintain regular communication with the Program Director.

Potential courses in need of instructors: Foundations of Counseling, Counseling Theories, Addictions Counseling, Culture, Diagnosis, Human Development, Ethics, Substance Abuse, Group Counseling, and Crisis Counseling.

Requirements:

-Minimum of Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. Doctoral degree preferred.
-Active certification and professional licenses as applicable per individual's certification and licensure.

-Indication of knowledge of teaching and learning process as evidenced by educational program or experience teaching.

-Priority will be given to individuals qualified to teach several courses; however, all applicants are encouraged to apply.
-Regular meetings with the Program Director and the course lead.
