Southern Cross is actively hiring motivated individuals for our Gas Distribution Services (GDS) Team supporting Con Edison operations throughout New York City and surrounding areas.

What You’ll Do
As a GDS Mechanic, you will support gas distribution operations and public safety efforts by performing:
Gas leak investigations and response work
Service line inspections
Natural gas detector installations
Integrity testing and gas relights
Minor gas repairs and follow-up work
Compliance inspections and documentation
Customer interaction and safety education
Field support for Con Edison gas operations
You’ll work directly in the field alongside experienced utility professionals while supporting one of the largest utility systems in the country.
We Are Looking For
Experienced Utility Candidates

Con Edison
Gas Distribution Services
Utility contractors
Natural gas operations
NGA / Operator Qualifications
If you already hold Con Edison or NGA Operator Qualifications — even better.
Entry-Level Candidates
No utility experience? No problem.
If you are dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and willing to learn, we are willing to invest in the right people.

Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and work in active field environments
Basic computer skills (Outlook, Teams, etc.)
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and safely
Preferred Qualifications
Con Edison Operator Qualifications
Northeast Gas Association (NGA) Qualifications
Previous utility, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, construction, or field service experience
Compensation & Benefits
$27/hour for fully qualified candidates
$23/hour for candidates with related experience
Company vehicle provided
Monday–Friday schedule with rotating shifts and occasional weekends
